pXL Compare Release Notes

What’s new in each version.

Version 1.0.7Latest

Requires macOS 26.6 or laterDownload

  • SSIMULACRA2 scores fixed. This fixes a regression that made SSIMULACRA2 scores come out wrong. Scores are accurate again.

Version 1.0.6

Requires macOS 26.6 or later

  • New JPEG XL encoder: jixel. We now include jixel, a Rust JPEG XL encoder written by Radzivon Bartoshyk, so you can compare it with libjxl and the other codecs. It decodes with JPEG XL’s djxl, so install JPEG XL from Required Tools to use it.
  • JPEGli is included. JPEGli now comes with the app, so you no longer have to build it from source.

Version 1.0.5

Requires macOS 26.6 or later

  • Safer exports. Exporting over an existing file now saves the new file first and only then swaps it into place, so if an export fails, your existing file is left untouched.
  • Stopping really stops. Cancelling a comparison now ends the encoder that was running, instead of leaving it working in the background.
  • More reliable cancelling. Cancelling just as an encoder starts no longer lets it slip through and keep running.

Version 1.0.4

Requires macOS 26.6 or later

  • New icon. pXL Compare has a new icon.

Version 1.0.3

Requires macOS 26.6 or later

  • Automatic updates. pXL Compare can now update itself. Choose pXL Compare → Check for Updates… at any time, or let it check for you. Updates are signed, so only releases from Fractional Xperience are installed.

Version 1.0.2

Requires macOS 26.4 or later

  • First public release.
